In honour of the Islamic New Year Hijirah 1446, the state government of Borno has declared a public holiday throughout the state.
Monday, July 8, 2024 has been declared by the acting Governor of Borno state, Umar Kadafur to mark the New Islamic year which begins the first day of the month Muharram.
He explained that the holiday is aimed at providing the Muslim Ummah the chance to reflect on the importance of the New Year and to allow peaceful coexistence among the citizens of the State.
He further said that the New Year marks the migration of the noble prophet in 622AD from Makkah to Medinah.
The acting Governor also urged the Muslim community to sustain dignity, tolerance, values of moderation, patriotism and peaceful coexistence with followers of other faiths, and service to humanity as part of the teaching of the Noble Prophet.
He said the Muslims should pray to Allah during this period for prosperity of the state and Nigeria as a whole.
