The minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris disclosed that FEC, Federal Executive Council ceased the memorandum on the new national minimum wage, for the president to make wider consultation on the issue after their meeting with him in Abuja.

According to him, he said the FEC took this decision because the new national minimum wage is not for the federal government alone but other stakeholders like the state government, local government and all other private sector including Organized labour.

The FEC stepped down the memo on the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers to allow Mr President makes further discussion with the State governors, organized private sector and seek for their opinions before the bill is presented to the National Assembly, because it is not a federal issue alone, it affects the state government, local government and including organized labour.

“The president has studied the memo and is going to do the needful before the bill is being passed, Idris stated.”

This decision of Mr President is as a result of Joe Ajaero, the NLC president statement where he said the president is expected to meet with the state, local government and all other organized private sector to discuss and have a harmonized figure because the new minimum wage recently offered 62,000 but the NLC and the TUC requested 250,000.
