The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State has announced plans to ensure gender pairing for the positions of chairman and vice chairman in the upcoming local government elections.
The party aims to pair men and women candidates for these roles in each local government area. The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) has scheduled the council elections in the state’s 21 local government areas for July 13.
Tahir Shehu, the PDP Chairman in Adamawa, stated that male chairmanship candidates will choose female running mates, and female chairperson candidates will select male running mates.
He emphasized that this approach reflects the party’s commitment to gender sensitivity, noting that the state deputy governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, is a woman. All LGAs won by our party will have mixed gender in the positions of chairman and vice chairman, Shehu declared, highlighting the party’s recognition of the honesty and commitment of women.
He further emphasized the importance of appreciating women, who often outnumber men in voting, and stressed the party’s dedication to supporting capable women for leadership roles.
