The Kaduna State House of Assembly has discovered a monumental heist carried out during the administration of former governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
The Assembly claimed that the heist was perpetrated under the guise of projects execution. Some political appointees from the previous administration held a press conference in Abuja, attempting to discredit the House and cover up the alleged fraud.
However, the lawmakers insisted that there was a systematic and coordinated cornering of the state’s resources through phony contracts and outright looting. The attention of the Kaduna State House of Assembly was drawn to the press conference addressed by the former political appointees.
They made efforts to criticize the report of the Probe Committee, resorted to name-calling, and made wild allegations about the motivations for the House Probe. The Assembly responded by stating that the press conference was a rehash of previous vituperations and innuendos.
The appointees failed to address the main issue of the systematic cornering of the state’s resources through phony contracts and looting. The State House of Assembly carried out a thorough probe into the massive debts incurred by the previous administration without commensurate projects.
The findings revealed a monumental heist, poorly executed projects, abandoned projects, and projects that exist only in the imagination of executive scammers. The Assembly has called on anti-corruption agencies to investigate and invite the former governor for questioning. The matter is now under investigation, and the Assembly has vowed to stand by the rule of law and due process.
