The Senator representing Gombe Central Senatorial District, Mohammed Danjuma Goje has lamented over the exclusion of the Northeast from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s road infrastructure projects.
The Senator portray the issue as a threat to Nigeria’s economy while urging for an urgent action to address the region’s plight.
Senator Goje stated this on Wednesday while moving a motion on the floor of the Senate.
After he noticed that other zones of the country have been included in the president’s projects. Goje said: “The Senate is aware that the legacy projects, as shown on its map, designed by the Federal Ministry of Works, excluded the North-East Geo-political zone which includes: Adamawa, Bauchi,Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe from the whole equation.
This has raised countless concerns about unequal development and capacity exclude of the region, which will worsen the infrastructural challenges of the region. He also said he is concerned that the security situation of the region has been further provoked as a result of lack of adequate road infrastructure which makes the people to experience security challenges.
He also stated that “The non inclusion of the region will not predict well for the socio-economic development of this country.Meanwhile, The Senate resolution praised the President for the project initiatives and pleaded for the reintegration of the northeast in the projects.
