According to a report by research firm IDC, global PC shipments reached 64.9 million units in the second quarter of 2023, marking a second straight quarter of growth after two years of decline. Apple’s shipments saw the biggest rise among global PC makers, jumping 20.8% from the same quarter last year, followed by Acer Group’s 13.7% gain.

The market is expected to rebound from a lull in orders following the pandemic-driven buying spree, with two consecutive quarters of growth, market hype around artificial intelligence PCs, and a commercial refresh cycle contributing to the positivity. However, weak results in China continued to hold the market back, with worldwide shipments excluding China growing over 5% year-over-year.

Lenovo Group led the market share with 22.7%, followed by HP with 21.1%, and Dell Technologies with 15.5%, despite a 2.4% fall in its shipments. The report suggests that while AI is driving interest, non-AI PC purchasing is also contributing to the market’s growth.
