Benue State is currently grappling with a cholera outbreak, with 16 suspected cases and four fatalities reported across three local government areas, namely Agatu, Ado, and Otukpo. Although the four deaths occurred during the investigation, their connection to cholera has since been confirmed.
The state government has acknowledged the outbreak and is working in collaboration with health officials to contain the spread of the disease. Residents are urged to maintain good hygiene practices, including frequent handwashing, environmental cleaning, and avoidance of unwashed fruits. The state government is providing necessary drugs and supplies to health facilities and is working with relevant stakeholders to prevent further outbreaks, particularly in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps
