The National Assembly has taken a significant step towards transforming Nigeria’s digital economy with the first reading of the National Digital Economy and e-Governance Bill, sponsored by Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, Chairman of the House Committee on Digital and Information Technology.
The bill, which aims to provide a legal framework for the development and regulation of the digital economy, was read for the first time on the floor of the House of Representatives this week.
Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha, over the weekend about the prospects of the bill, Hon. Olajide, who represents Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency of Oyo State at the National Assembly, expressed his excitement at the milestone achieved with the first reading of the bill.
He stated that the passage of the bill will have far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s economic growth and development.
“This bill is a crucial step towards harnessing the potential of our digital economy and positioning Nigeria as a key player in the global digital landscape,” Olajide said.
The lawmaker revealed that the committee would embark on a nationwide consultation process, engaging with stakeholders, industry experts, and the general public to gather input and feedback on the bill.
