FG WILL DEPLOY VACCINES DESPITE SLOW CHOLERA SPREAD

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Pate, says the Federal Government will effectively deploy vaccines coming from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, despite the spread of cholera outbreak slowing down in the country.T

he minister made this known on Thursday night while responding to a post made by the Chief Executive Officer of the vaccine firm, Dr Sania Nishtar, on X formerly known as Twitter.In the post, Nishtar disclosed that the fresh cholera vaccines would soon arrive in Nigeria to help curb the deadly and ongoing outbreak.

The current outbreak has spread to 187 local government areas, with a cumulative case fatality rate of 2.8 per cent since the beginning of the year.The

Director-General of the NCDC, Dr Jide Idris, noted that the predominant age affected was five years old, while males account for 52 per cent of cases and females account for the rest.risk.Despite the large number of cholera outbreaks this year, our stockpile is now fully replenished and production continues at maximum capacity

.He further said that the federal government is working to Improve the water and sanitation situation in the country.
