The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is of the opinion that it is women that are to be seen in the leadership position in the campaign for food security in Nigeria.
This statement she made in her State House quarters in Abuja, while showing her vegetable garden that she has planted to inspire the first time women farmers to participate in the present Every Home A Garden competition that has a winning prize of N25 million.
The First Lady who has planted ‘ewedu’ and other six types of vegetables which are water leaf, bitter leaf, spinach,‘ewedu’,scent leaf,lemon grass and okro said that everyone making just a little effort will make a big difference in the food insecurity issue.
This small garden will provide crop of vegetables that are healthy enough for my house and I surely would be able to let a part of my staff have them. The the solution to every problem lies in everyone contributing their quota to getting that solution. As the leader, i must show example and plant my own garden she said.
She motivated women across the country to be the first ones to try out something new by planning a household garden which can help her produce more food for her family and her community.
According to her: “This will also develop the community life thus helps in boosting much the food security program of the Federal Government. The vegetables are health giving and the garden is to driven by example for other women to embrace smart gardening”.
This was all done when she showed the wife of Imo State governor the garden, Chioma Uzodinma, as well as the wife of the Minister of State for Defence, Mrs Aisha Matawale.In a press statement made by the Spokeperson, Busola Kukoyi , it has been revealed that “the Every Home A Garden Competition is being introduced to women farmers in all parts of Nigeria for the first time.
Entries should be submitted to the Office of the Wives of the State Governments of the contestants in form of a 30 seconds short video about her by close of work on September 25,2024. The person that emerged will receive N25 million.”
