Rivers State Police have detained Felix Nwaobakata, the commander of the ONELGA Security and Peace Advisory Committee (OSPAC), along with seven other vigilante members. They are accused of multiple crimes, including murder and kidnapping. The arrests, which took place after numerous complaints about the group’s violent activities, mark a significant crackdown on vigilante excesses in the state.

Nwaobakata and his team are alleged to have killed two brothers, Collins and Newman Ugorji, in Idu Community on May 1, 2024, and a youth leader, Innocent Didia, in Egbeda Community two days later. The police, responding to the alarming reports, raided the group’s camp in Omoku, where they discovered two human skulls and bones.
Commissioner Olatunji Disu emphasized the importance of reporting any misconduct by vigilante groups and assured the public of the police’s dedication to justice and maintaining order. The police have urged residents to come forward with any complaints against these groups.
