I personally believe sleep is an essential component in how we function in our daily lives. It’s crucial for our physical and mental healthy wellbeing.

These days, the benefits and importance of sleep is undervalued. The negligence of sleep is a common occurrence among young people. Despite doctors recommending eight hours of sleep, many individuals sacrifice their sleeping time to get more done, unaware that deprivation of sleep and adequate rest slows down productivity also persistent deprivation of sleep can lead to a shorter lifespan. A study published in the journal sleep shows that “sleep restriction can impair cognitive function, leading to decreased productivity and increased errors” (Harrison & Horne, 2000).

Some people might misguidedly view sleep as a sign of laziness or waste of time but I hold the opinion that getting enough sleep is an act of self care and self love, it makes task easier to navigate. It’s vital for clear mind and focus. Busy professionals, CEOs, entrepreneurs and students should prioritize sleep and make time for it in their schedules. In place of relying on Caffeine and last minute cramming, students should read ahead and get enough sleep to perform well in their exams. By acknowledging the importance of sleep, we can improve our overall wellbeing and efficiency.

Suggestions for Better Sleep Quality

– set up a regular schedule

– Establish a relaxing sleep time routine( taking of showers, soft pajamas)

– Avoid screen and stimulating activities before bedtime

– Refine your sleep environment( dark, quiet, cool and neat)

Sleep is not a luxury but a necessity.
