Barcelona has come to a “preliminary agreement” to secure the services of Nico Williams and has settled on the terms of his personal contract. The negotiations between Barcelona and Williams’ agent, Felix Tainta, were successful, finalizing the player’s personal deal. While the specifics of the salary and contract length remain undisclosed, this agreement represents a significant step forward.

The focus for the Catalan club now shifts to finding a way to meet the winger’s release clause of €58 million (£49m/$63m) to finalize the transfer. Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, has openly shown his admiration for Williams and his confidence in completing the signing. Laporta mentioned on ‘El Matí de Catalunya Ràdio’ that they are in a position to secure Nico Williams’ signing.

Laporta also discussed the club’s strategy to manage financial constraints and adhere to La Liga’s regulations, expressing optimism about the club’s financial future. Despite the positive progress, there is a sense of urgency as Williams prefers a swift transfer to Barcelona, aiming to have the deal completed by the first week of August to allow Athletic time to find a suitable replacement.
