Bauchi electoral commission announces timetable for LG elections

The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission has announced the schedule for the Local Government elections set for August 17, 2024. This announcement was made by the commission’s chairman, Ahmad Makama, during a press briefing at the commission’s headquarters.

According to the timetable, political parties can start their campaigns from July 18 and continue until August 16, 2024, the day before the election. The activities leading up to the election include overseeing political party primaries, collecting and submitting aspiration forms by political parties, and screening candidates, which will occur from July 15 to August 8, 2024.

Makama added, “Other activities from August 9 to August 15, 2024, are the training of Local Government Returning Officers, Supervisory Officers, Presiding Officers, and other election personnel, as well as the distribution of sensitive election”.

The session was attended by sixteen registered political parties, while the All Progressive Congress APC, the major opposition party in the state, did not attend.

The chairman disclosed that the commission will meet with the Heads of security Agencies and Stakeholders on July 10 and July 11, 2024, as part of preparation to ensure hitch free election.
