The Ministry of National Defense of Niger and the U.S. Department of Defense announced the completion of the first phase of the withdrawal of U.S. forces and equipment from Niger. The announcement was made during a signing ceremony at Air Base 101 in Niamey, Niger’s capital, where documents were signed to transfer American rights to the Nigerien army.
The ceremony was attended by the American ambassador, Kathleen FitzGibbon, along with other civil and military officials from both countries.

American troops had announced their official departure from the African nation by Sept. 15.
