Yume Yume, an Amsterdam-based brand known for its edgy, practical designs, presents a head-to-toe ensemble composed of Reishi, a cutting-edge leather substitute created by biotech startup.
This unique collection, on display at Amsterdam’s Buro Stedelijk, demonstrates the brand’s revolutionary turn towards learning from the natural world and adapting to the requirements and applications of our times.
Also, it unfolds as a multi-sensory celebration of the intriguing world of mycelium. “This is the future of materials; it’s so fascinating what kind of intelligent living system it is,” Yume Yume founder Eva Korsten tells Designboom.
Creating full design components out of ReishiTM demonstrates the possibility of a different fashion future.
As part of her continuous search for substitute materials, Yume Yume collaborates with Creative Director Xavier Gallego of MycoWorks, the only mycelium biotechnology company with an artistic foundation, to present a three-piece edit based on biofabrication.
The pair honours this partnership with Descent into Fungal, an interactive, multisensory show in Amsterdam’s newest art venue, Buro Stedelijk.

Developed by Nature Trench and featuring intricate pleated and ruched details, signature Fisherman Boots, and a supersized mushroom hat, the ReishiTM outfit design is on display through January 25, 2024.
Additionally, there is a conceptual art video that examines the relationship between human and artistic influence on mycelium growth, and the Mycelium Stage is a living artwork that changes and interacts with the viewer.
