Kogi State has documented two confirmed cases of cholera, indicating its status among the six states in Nigeria with relatively low cholera cases, reporting only two confirmed cases. The State Commissioner for Health, Mr. Abdullazeez Adam, shared this information in Lokoja, mentioning that one patient has been treated and discharged, while the other patient is responding well to treatment.Adam highlighted that while 31 states and the FCT are experiencing epidemic levels of cholera, the remaining six states, including Kogi, may have cases but not at epidemic levels. To accurately identify and confirm cases, samples need to be taken and sent to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Abuja for testing. He emphasized the importance of reporting suspected cases to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment, as unreported cases where individuals self-medicate at home without seeking medical attention cannot be accurately counted in official record.
