FIBROIDS AWARENESS:EPERT URGES WOMEN TO TAKE CONTROL OF RISK FACTORS

Medical expert Dr. Tope Olowogbayi addressed a free seminar in Lagos, organized by the Support Association for Fibroids Awareness (SAFA), highlighting the importance of knowledge in reducing the risk of fibroids.

While the exact cause remains unknown, Dr. Olowogbayi explained that women can take control by understanding both non-modifiable risk factors (family history, race, and age) and modifiable risk factors (body size, oral contraceptive use, and vitamin D deficiency). He noted that fibroids affect an estimated 70-80% of women by age 50, with women in their 30s and 40s being most at risk. The seminar aimed to address the significant lack of awareness and understanding of uterine fibroids in Nigeria, where the condition is prevalent, and treatment options are often overlooked.:
