MSSN UNIOSUN Celebrates 2023/2024 Dawah Week In Grand Style

The Muslim students society of Nigeria MSSN, of Osun state university, Ikire campus, celebrates her 2023/2024 Dawah week in grand style, which started on July 1st, to 7th of July 2024, within the Ikire campus environment. 

This year’s Dawah/jihad week begins on Monday 1st of July with awareness as its first program.  

The Muslim students on campus converged at the school gate by 4:30 pm to embark on a tour round the campus environment chatting and singing, to serve as an awareness for other students, and indigenes, of Ikire also. 

During the welcome address by the Amir MSSN UNIOSUN Ikire Campus,Mr Abubakry Abdul Qudus, he appreciated all members for supporting the activities of his administration since its inception.

He explains what jihad is and what it entails, he then offers prayer for the past Muslims who started jihad and all following their part till the day of reckoning. 

The students march from the school gate to different places, hostels, houses, streets, and areas in Ikire where other students reside to inform them about the program. 

Places like  Factory, Triple M hostels, Awo hall, Florence hostel, Atoto area, Thel Victoria Royal hotel, Ogunse, Mateba, Fufu empire, Onireke, Gantry, Fulani and all hostels along the roadside, back to the school gate. 

With joy and happiness they sang and chanted different Islamic songs, and invocations through the trip. 

The program continues on Tuesday with a humanitarian visit to the Ikire Muslim cemetery. To pay a courtesy visit to the dead Muslims buried in the cemetery. 

They converged at the school gate on Tuesday afternoon and visited the Ikire Muslim cemetery. The visit is to serve as a reminder for everyone that the people there were ones like them and that one day each and everyone will go and join them. 

The Amir admonished the students to be good and do good at all time, hold firm their Deen, and be of good conduct and character always 

He reminds them that death is a debt which will be paid by all, and no one is aware of the time he/she will be paying his/hers. 

Prayers were offered for the deasesed and the students and for the country in general.

As the events continued on Wednesday, July 3rd, which was the Jihad/Dawah week merchandise day. 

The students rock the jihad week merchandize in grand style, as some where seen putting on the jihad vest, some rock the day with the jihad week Tote bags which are designed special for the day. 

The jihad week activities continued on Thursday with an online leadership training program which was held on the association WhatsApp platform. 

It was hosted by one of the association executives and the association Female leader (Ameerah) Miss Egbebi Mariam, delivered a lecture on leadership and what it entails.

She listed the qualities of a good leader, what a good leader should do and what not to do were all mentioned during her presentation. She also encouraged the students to always be a good leader in anything where they’re and hold firm the Deen. 

She made it known that any post or position someone occupied is a trust entrusted with him/her and he/ she will give a comprehensive report to the almighty. 

Give away section wasn’t left out as they threw out some questions and winners were being appreciated with gifts for their participation. 

Friday was for a special Jummah prayer which took place in the school mosque by 1pm. 

Friday’s sermon was delivered by the school Iman Mr Raufu, a lecturer of History department. 

He talked about the ongoing jihad week as a very important part of every Muslim students on campus, he admonished the students to be part of the activities and make good use of this golden opportunity they have. 

He also speaks on the upcoming exam and encourages the students to do well in studying hard and not neglecting prayer, as it is an important part of human life. 

Mr Raufu also tells them not to engage in any form of malpractice, as it can put an end to their studentship if caught and can disrupt their career in the long run.

Refreshments were shared after the Jummah prayer in celebration of the Jihad week. 

Jihad week activities continue on Saturday as the society organizes two program for the day. The football match for the Muslim brothers and the sisters seminar for the ladies. 

An epic football match took place by 7am Saturday morning, between team Jalabia and team Jersey. It was an amazing display of sportsmanship and brotherhood. 

The final score of 4-4 is a testament to the talent, skill, and determination of both teams. The brothers enthusiasm, teamwork, and respect for one another on and off the field embody the true spirit of Dawah Week.

Sisters seminar started shortly after the football game, as it was only for the ladies, the seminar started with a breakfast with sisters, after which games were played, and different tasks were given to the sisters to complete. 

Lecture was delivered to the sisters by Sister Ruqayyah (umu Abdullah) on Working women and mothers in Islam taking women and mothers like Khadijah bint khuwaylid,Zaynab bint Ali, Professor Ruqayyah Ahmad, Dr Adeezah, Dr Khadijah Ogunro. As examples.

She speaks on the challenges faced by women and some strategic plans for success, such as education and personal discrimination, leadership and community involvement and the likes 

She encouraged the sisters to be united and happy with one another, and by this women can achieve their aims regardless of faith and background. 

Group pictures were also taken after the program. 

And the grand finale activities of this year’s Jihad week took place on Sunday 7th of July, 2024 at the school mosque. Where the theme of the Jihad week was discussed, and a lot of interesting programs were done to end the year’s Jihad week activities.

Muslim students on campus have been charged to be true ambassadors of Islam and manifest the true tenets of the religion in all their doings.

This is just a way they were charged to do away with all forms of acts of disbelief, hypocrisy and indecency, as it is capable of jeopardising their good deeds on earth.

An Erudite Islamic Scholar, Imam Adeyemo, stated this in his lecture at the Grand Finale of activities marking the 2023/2024 Dawah/Jihad Week.

According to him, there is nothing more beneficial to Muslims to excel in life and the hereafter, than to live a life of pious service and adherence to the true tenets of the religion.

“I urge you all not to abandon your responsibilities on earth. It is very important not to be distracted by worldly affairs, and neglect what Allah has commanded us to do on earth which is to worship him with our actions and utterances.

“Your true Islam should manifest in your worship and conduct. Every day when you wake up, seek ways of improving your relationship with your creator. Once that is achieved, embrace gradual development into the different stages of piety and extend the tentacles of brotherly love to everyone.

At the event awards of recognition were also presented to some brothers and sisters for their immense contribution towards the success of the program and the administration. 

Brothers and sisters like Abdullateef Ojolowo, Abdul Kareem Moshood, Sulaemon Abdulbaqi, Ismail Soffiyah, Ayoola Asiyah, Egbebi Mariam, Oladepo Ameerah, were all awarded.
