CHOLERA OUT BREAK

63 deaths was recorded by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and 2,102 suspected cases in the cholera outbreak affecting the nation.

On Tuesday in Abuja, Dr jide Idris the director general of NCDC stated in a conference that over 63 death has been recorded and 2102 presume cholera cases in 122 local government and in the 33 state of Nigeria.
He also said that Lagos, Bayelsa, Abia, Zamfara, Bauchi, Katsina, Cross River, Ebonyi, Rivers, and Delta were the most affected state in the country.The head of the NCDC stated that, despite robust political backing and concerted efforts, persistent issues such as open defecation, insufficient toilet facilities, inadequate water and sanitation, poor waste management, and ineffective regulatory practices remain. Due to the climate change and flooding spread the disease in the country he added.
He mentioned ongoing efforts to address the outbreak, emphasizing the importance of improving hygiene practices, enforcing public health regulations, and strengthening the capacity of healthcare workers at both state and local levels.
The federal and state governments must intervene quickly to prevent the disease from spreading further across the country.”We are troubled that without swift and proactive actions, the disease could reach numerous other regions and potentially escalate beyond our expectations, posing significant risks to public health and the nation overall.”
