Former presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi emphasized the critical importance of investing in Nigeria’s health sector during a visit to Holy Rosary College of Nursing in Emekuku, near Owerri.

Obi noted that with Nigeria’s average life expectancy at 55 years, there is a pressing need for holistic investment in the health sector, particularly in the training and education of young professionals who will manage the system in the future.Supporting the management’s proposal to convert the college into a university, the former Anambra governor pledged his full backing. He stated, “The most important person, the closest to a patient in the hospital, is the nurse. Hence, investment in nurses and nursing students alike is critical to us.

” The Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Diocese, Most Rev. Lucius Ugorji, expressed gratitude to Obi for his visit and ongoing support. He praised Obi as “a detribalised, proper citizen and role model with character, competence, capacity, and simplicity,” and urged well-meaning Nigerians to follow his example.
