Bayelsa Health Commissioner Pledges Readiness Against Cholera Outbreak

In response to rising cholera cases across the country, Bayelsa State Health Commissioner, Professor Seiyefa Brisibe, assured that no lives would be lost to the disease in the state. At a news conference in Yenagoa, he emphasized the state’s proactive measures, including heightened disease surveillance, capacity building, and community sensitization. Brisibe, a professor of family medicine, noted that while Bayelsa lies in an endemic belt for tropical diseases, no positive cholera cases have been recorded so far. He highlighted the state’s readiness with rapid detection tests, inter-agency collaboration, and strong feedback mechanisms to manage any potential outbreak. He urged residents to maintain good hygiene practices to prevent the disease, expressing confidence in the state’s preparedness and resilient health systems to prevent any loss of life.
